Our client and their challenge

Motorola, the inventor of the mobile communications industry,  approached us to support the launch of the new Motorola Razr handset across EE showcase stores.

With the iconic mobile handset return to the mobile phone market after a 15-year absence, our brief was to deliver a design-led experiential activity whilst driving brand awareness assisted by Brand Ambassadors in-store.

Our process

We developed a range of ideas that would engage with customers in-store and our final execution invited customers to ‘beat the vault’. Customers who successfully ‘beat the vault’ within a 30 second window were awarded with a branded goody bag and entry into a prize draw to win a VIP getaway to Miami which included flights, accommodation, excursions and 2 Motorola Razr handsets.

The showcase areas in store came equipped with 6 LED large format screens, floor and ceiling space. We designed and developed these spaces with branded side panels, branded flooring, hanging retro Razr handsets and skill based ‘beat the vault’ game.

Our solution

As a result, we were instrumental in helping Motorola launch this iconic handset back in the UK market. Executed against our brief the success of the VIP prize draw led to a 4 week instore extension.

Our client and their challenge

With Retail at a very important stage of the consumer decision journey (51% of shoppers visit a retail outlet when in market for a new washing machine).

We were tasked with creating experiential standout and best in class branded display units designed to draw immediate attention to Samsung’s new Quick Drive Washing Machine in retail stores.

Required to encourage consideration and purchase through a desire for a washing machine that can save time with no compromise on performance.

Our solution was supported by key visuals, POS and digital execution, and was an appropriate category creation for this new innovative

Our process

Big Group Retail initially considered and submitted proposals on campaign positioning, target market and customer journey, and delivered a message that would easily communicate the key benefits of Quick Drive both in 3D retail fixtures and in 2D assets. Following liaison with HQ, legal, and independent testing, a key headline was created which was then taken onto a premium design solution for fixtures. Customer education of features was via video content, together with an app whereby customers can compare laundry time spent on conventional vs Quick Drive products. Interaction with the display was also supported up by Ibeacon technology for customers in store proximity and able to find out more about the new product.

Big Group Retail designed, manufactured in powder coated steel with raised acrylic lettering and LED branded signage, an installation featuring a lectern display housing an interactive screen. Displays are future-proofed and easily modified for future product launches. Displays were installed into 118 Dixons stores, and 29 John Lewis Partnership stores; plus a further 100 Dixons Store Group in run installations.

Our Solutions

Sales of the new product exceeded targets, supported by In Store experiential areas and window displays across the UK.

Our clients challenge

How does the #1 brand for food preparation appliances and coffee makers in the UK continue to excite, delight and meet the needs of shoppers in an increasingly crowded and competitive retail environment?

In an ongoing effort to maintain their market position, our client wanted to assess the entire shopper journey - from initial research to purchase completion, and turned to Big Group for shopper research that could answer the following questions;

  • What is the role of the store to inspire, influence and support the purchase decision?
  • What are the key triggers and barriers to category participation?
  • How easy is it to shop for our products in the retail environment?
  • How can we improve the retail experiences of our customers?
  • What can we do to help our customers have meaningful and memorable experiences in our retail settings?

Our Process

To understand the role of the store within the context of the whole customer journey and to get under the skin of the retail shopper, Big Group conducted a series of one hour shop-along interviews with pre-recruited participants, inside retail stores. Participants had either purchased a food preparation appliance or coffee machine in the recent past, or were considering doing so in the immediate future.

Interviews were structured to answer the specific questions posed by our client.

Our Solutions

Our analysis elicited valuable insight regarding shopper attitudes towards the brand and retail shopping experience. It identified the role of retail on the path to purchase, assessed the current in store journey and identified opportunities for retail improvement. It also highlighted the importance of having knowledgeable, expert retail staff on hand to elevate the shopper experience, drive product trial and exploration and secure sales in store.

Our work has generated positive feedback from the Kenwood and De’Longhi team, who are using the insight to inform and validate new, shopper-centril retail design solutions for 2019/20.

Our client and their challenge

With an ever-growing product range, and constant updates to their retail marketing strategy, Samsung needed support in managing updates to the UK and Ireland retail displays.

It was becoming difficult for Samsung’s retail team to keep track of changes to physical retail spaces, as their planogram system, used to guide how products should be displayed, was entirely manual, too vague, and wasn’t keeping pace with the rate of change.

Samsung needed a flexible, efficient tool, which would allow agile changes at both an individual store and estate-wide level for products, fixtures and graphics.

Our Solutions

Using its deep industry experience and client knowledge, Big Group developed a new bespoke, ‘Retail Planogram Management Portal’, specifically tailored for Samsung’s retail and field staff.

Alongside accurate retail planograms for all of Samsung’s retail fixture and displays, the portal produces detailed analytical reports, defining the display requirements for thousands of stores in seconds. Samsung can produce pick pack lists for artwork quotes, and amend promotional requirements to suit budgets in a fraction of the time. Administration of the portal is managed in-house, to take advantage of synergies between the portal’s analytical and planning features.

Since its launch, we’ve developed the platform organically to meet fresh challenges, build in new functions, and keep it relevant to Samsung’s processes.

The Solutions

With over 200 active users, the Retail Planogram Management Portal is now relied upon for upholding compliance with display guidelines, managing retail marketing promotions, and assisting with the introduction of new product ranges.

Beyond the initial release, the portal has already been extended to other departments, integrating Samsung’s information management planograms to eventually support Samsung’s entire consumer electronics range.

By developing the portal through organic, continuous steps, we’ve exceeded expectations, to deliver so much more than the original brief. By injecting the project with creative innovation, and listening to our client’s specific needs, we’ve supported Samsung and its stakeholders at every level of the  retail marketing journey.

Our client and their challenge

Kenwood, the premium manufacturer of home appliances, approached Big to manage a publicity driven Trade Day to launch their new “Kenwood Can” campaign. Big negotiated, branded and managed the venue and supplied all AV, staging and content filming.

The ambition was to set a new Guinness World Record in front of a valued trade audience and with the date fell on Pancake Day, our events team proposed a number of on location activities involving, guess what? Pancakes!  This resulted in achieving a new world record for the longest line of pancakes, beating the previous record of 110m set by Nutella in 2017.

On the day, there were over 100 trade partners invited to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium where Kenwood presented their new ‘Kenwood Can’ brand and latest products.

Our process

Working closely with our client and the Guinness World Records Team we built a structure large enough for us to create the longest line of pancakes at 130 metres long. This produced a total of 1135 pancakes at 12cm diameter that were positioned on top of the large Kenwood logo structure.

The 100 guests were invited to partake in making pancakes using De’Longhi MultiGrills, Kenwood Chef food mixers and Braun Hand Blenders.

As part of the day and following presentations from the Kenwood team, 2 Michelin Star Chef Raymond Blanc OBE was invited to cook a 3 course meal for all guests and he also showed us how to make the perfect Soufflé.

Our Solutions

As a result we were able to assist Kenwood in achieving a new Guinness World Record at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the longest line of pancakes! Kenwood also successfully launched their new campaign ‘Kenwood Can’ to their trade partners.

Here are some social media stats:

  • Raymond Blanc Instagram stories 38,400 views
  • GWR & Kenwood Facebook Live streams: 174,000 and 67,000, combined total of 241,000 views
  • THFC stadium: Instagram: 13,000 views

A number of social media influencer were invited to the day with a combined social reach of 252,965 views.
