At Big Group Retail, sustainability is more than just a buzzword: it’s baked into everything we do. We can help retailers rise to the challenge of sustainable business practices and meet their responsibilities to the planet.

Consumer expectations are high, and as the emphasis on environmentalism increases, they’re looking beyond the product to the entire supply chain for environmentally ethical practices.

That’s why retailers need to demonstrate a commitment to sustainability, and a creative approach to environmentalism, to maintain consumer loyalty and stay ahead of the curve.

At Big Group Retail, we’re passionate about the planet. That’s why we constantly work towards sustainability, look for ways to reduce the quantity of materials we use, and consider every aspect of the process, from packaging, fixings and transportation to end of life repurposing.

We design with the entire lifecycle in mind. We put an emphasis on sourcing materials responsibly, and we always consider FSC Certified natural and reclaimed woods and environmentally friendly plastics wherever possible.

Increasing unit recyclability is also important to us, so once fittings have served their purpose, we ensure they can be disposed of responsibly and advise our clients of the best way to do so. We always aim to work with suppliers who support this initiative, so every aspect of the lifecycle is considered.

We aim to help brands make better environmental choices at each stage of point of sale development. Not only is a dedication to sustainability good for the environment, it’s also good for your brand and boosts customer loyalty.

With Big Group Retail at the forefront of VR development, we can help retailers stand out in a changing world - bringing customers to you even from the safety of their own homes.

Retail adapts fast to changing consumer habits, and we’ve always been there on the frontline to help. Now, online and in-store can be closer than ever before with virtual showrooms showcasing real store layouts and giving a new dimension to the retail offer.

As shopper habits and trends change rapidly, retailers need to demonstrate a stronger online presence to compete. With physical shop constraints, reduced footfall and lingering concerns with hygiene, a virtual showroom stands out, engages online shoppers and gives them the freedom to explore the full range of products.

Scrolling is replaced with interactive browsing and virtual visits to your showroom, with customers able to explore the area or category they are interested in and browse products naturally - with added information in product-specific links, videos and showreels on screen to engage, inform and excite them.

Your virtual showroom shows customers you’re still here, with a willingness to adapt and innovate, and a promise to entice customers back to physical stores where sales can be converted.

Help your brand stand out online and in-store with our team of experienced insight and VR experts. We help you create the concept and deliver the design you need, for the impact you want – on time and on budget.

Big Group Retail has been on the frontlines of the ever-evolving Retail landscape for years. In the face of a global pandemic and rapidly changing customer needs-in terms of both payments and services-we've been exploring how stores will need to adapt to stay relevant.

With consumers increasingly wary of hygiene in public spaces, we're anticipating stores switching to contactless controls. Solutions like infrared and motion sensors and voice controls will be both retrofitted and installed as new on displays to limit physical contact without stifling engagement.

Where hygiene can't be literally hand-waved away, we think germ-busting technology will see a surge in popularity. This could become the norm for newer displays, and applied to older ones with novel treatments that keep staff and customers safe from unseen threats.

This isn't fantasy-we were already helping physical stores with all this and more-VR showrooms with built-in data capture software, projection mapping, smart lighting to guide consumers to products ... COVID-19 has just accelerated the move towards experiential retail spaces.

One thing is for certain – we’re excited to see what tomorrow will bring.

Big Group are delighted to announce that we have acquired two Amsterdam-based marketing and creative agencies, Brandworks and 230V, who have rebranded to form Big Amsterdam – an extension of our award-winning UK agency with offices in London, Newbury and Bath.

230V was founded by Bas Jongerling, Coen Zuijdervliet and Karen Mönnich in 2015, providing strategic creative, brand activation and public relations services. Brandworks was founded by Michel van den Houten, supporting brands and organisations to accelerate or launch their business in the Benelux and European markets.

Both having been acquired by Big Group will rebrand as Big Amsterdam, with Michel van den Houten appointed as the Managing Director. Big Amsterdam will focus on brand activation, supported by digital and customer experience services.

Nick Scott, CEO of Big Group stated:

“It has been a long-held ambition to scale our existing award-winning business outside the UK.   With Amsterdam’s well-deserved reputation for creative excellence and business culture we felt it was the right location to extend our offering to our clients in Europe. We are very excited to have this creative and forward-thinking team onboard and being able to work together in Europe and the UK.”

Michel van den Houten, Managing Director of Big Amsterdam, said:

The acquisition by Big Group provides us with the data-driven technological backbone that completes our proposition for our customers. We think, create and execute ROI driven brand activation and marketing campaigns and our ethos perfectly matches the Big Group culture in the UK.”

We welcome our new Dutch colleagues to the team and look forward to what the future holds!

POPAI Award

We’re extremely pleased to announce that Big Group won two awards at the POPAI awards. We took Gold in the Consumer Electronics category beating out three other nominees, including displays for Amazon and Intel, as well as winning the Grand Prize of the evening – The Permanent Retail Display of the Year!

In the Consumer Electronics category we were nominated for our Samsung Q-Drive display as seen above. The display units were designed to promote Samsung’s new washing machine product range, providing both key messages and benefits to shoppers. Our units were launched in fiercely competitive retail environments to create stand out for Samsung against its competitors to help showcase the main differences and benefits of the new product range.

As the last award of the night, the winner of Permanent Retail Display of the Year was chosen by judges from every entry in the 20+ other prize categories, meaning Big Group Retail won the award whilst up against some very fierce competition. The judges commented ‘The display does a great job of making the product the hero. The messaging communicates the Q-Drive’s use and benefits in a way that will be well understood by the shopper. Simple use of corporate colours made it stand out as a Samsung product.’

POPAI is the industry association dedicated to best in-store practice and is focused on enhancing the total shopping experience. The POPAI Awards are the ultimate symbol of creativity, innovation and best practice for the in-store retail design industry – a hallmark of excellence providing the benchmark for success and the catalyst for continuous improvement.

We are absolutely thrilled to receive these two awards, well done to all of those involved, and congratulations to the winners in other categories!
